Intercountry Adoption
Adopting Child from india?
We are a couple and our ethnic origin is IndiaWe have been living in UK since June 2004. We are in UK on Work Permit Visa till Oct 2009. And our visa specifies that we have Limited Leave to Remain in UK .We are going to apply for the Permanent Residency for UK in May 2009. My husband works as a Senior Radiographer with NHS. We were married on 1 Dec 1999 and have tried for a child since then but I have a history of recurrent miscarriages each time I have conceived. So, now we want to go for Adoption as we have always yearned for a child. We will be interested in adopting a child through interCountry Adoption from India.
We are in London and I contacted my local council but they are reluctant to help us as we don’t have indefinite rule to remain. However, another voluntary organisation said they can help us if we can prove we are habitually resident in UK. Please advice on legal and immigration rules applicable to us if we adopt from India and try to bring the child here.
My heart goes out to you, it truly does, and I hope that you’re successful in adopting a child. Instead of asking people legal questions on this website, I suggest you contact the Home Office directly. You’ll be able to find their phone number on this website: http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/passports-and-immigration/immigration/ Good luck, anyone who is helping abandoned children is a wonderful person.

Adoption as a Ministry, Adoption as a Blessing $13.99 “”Abba, Father ” Of all the pictures the Lord uses to describe His relationship with believers, that of a loving father to adopted children is perhaps the most tender. As the body of Christ observes families who have lovingly welcomed adopted children into their midst, we gain a greater appreciation of our own adoption into the family of God. Exploring what Scripture says about adoption and the value of children, Michelle Gardner demonstrates that adoption can be God’s first choice for some lives. Weaving her own children’s heartwarming adoption stories throughout the book, Michelle presents a new challenge for believers to do something drastic for a child. Adoption as a Ministry, Adoption as a Blessing explores: – what the Bible says about ministering to children in need of families – how the church can minister to adoptive families – whether it is right to spend a great deal of money on one child’s adoption – whether domestic or international adoptions are more worthy – the blessings of adoption If you are touched by adoption in any way, this book will give you a new perspective on the Biblical significance of this unique relationship. Michelle Gardner, the Director of Kingdom Kids Adoption Ministries, is a graduate of Multnomah Bible College. She and her husband Steve were missionaries with CBInternational for several years. Steve is now Pastor to Children and Families at Fourth Memorial Church in Spokane, Washington. They have six children, three of whom are adopted.” |

Adoption Is for a Lifetime $14.99 “Nancy was Canada’s first foreign adoptee. She shares her fascinating story of how God orchestrated her adoption from Hong Kong, blessed her with wonderful parents, a loving husband, and in His faithfulness and healing presence, brought them through every struggle, especially the loss of their first daughter, Rebecca Joy. Despite the grief, Nancy shares how God turned their pain into joy and sorrow into victory. From what may have seemed like a tragedy to most, Nancy and her husband, Paul, now see how God used this great trial to prepare their hearts for the adoption of Joylin (5), their first precious daughter and their second, Saralin (1). Take a journey with Nancy, as she testifies of the abiding presence of our heavenly Father’s heart for adoption. Nancy (Lai Kwan Chiu) was born in Hong Kong. At 3 years of age, she was adopted by Chinese parents and became Canada’s first foreign adoptee. She lived with her parents and adopted brother, Gerry, in Montreal until she was 13, after which her family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and eventually pursued a career in computer programming. Nancy, her husband, Paul, and adopted Chinese daughters, Joylin (5) and Sarlin (1) now live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she works as a computer programmer/systems analyst. The Open Adoption Book: A Guide to Adoption Without Tears $13.95 “Updated for a New Paperback Edition, the Definitive Guide to Open Adoption, by the founder of the Open Adoption Movement The exploding popularity of open adoption today underscores what adopting parents, birthparents, and many adoption experts now maintain: Open adoption is the healthiest, most humane, and fastest method available. It’s better for the birthmother, because she (not lawyers or social workers) decides the future of her child. It’s better for children, because they’re raised without the shroud of secrecy and stigma that accompanies most closed adoptions. And it’s better for adopting parents, because it dramatically shortens the time it takes to obtain a baby, from an average of seven years to under one year. As director of one of the country’s leading open adoption agencies and founder of the first nationwide network of open adoption organizations, Bruce Rappaport has facilitated thousands of successful open adoptions and acquired an intimate understanding of the most common and heartfelt concerns of parents seeking to adopt a baby. Interweaving personal stories and real-life experiences of adopting parents, birthparents, and adopted children, he answers the questions clients most frequently ask:> * What is an open adoption? How does it differ from traditional adoption?> * Will I ever feel like a real parent if my child’s biological mother knows I’m raising her child? Will she interfere?> * What if the birthmother changes her mind after the adoption?> * How long will it take to get a child?> Documenting answers with extensive personal experience and research, Dr. Rappaport paints a reassuring yet realistic picture of the open adoption process. The result is a highly informative, deeply moving book that will help many people realize the greatest joy life can offer.” |

Adopted for Life: The Priority of Adoption for Christian Families and Churches $15.99 “>A stirring call to Christian families and churches to be a people who care for orphans, not just in word, but in deed. >The gospel of Jesus Christ-the good news that through Jesus we have been adopted as sons and daughters into God’s family-means that Christians ought to be at the forefront of the adoption of orphans in North America and around the world. >Russell D. Moore does not shy away from this call in Adopted for Life, a popular-level, practical manifesto for Christians to adopt children and to help equip other Christian families to do the same. He shows that adoption is not just about couples who want children-or who want more children. It is about an entire culture within Christianity, a culture that sees adoption as part of the Great Commission mandate and as a sign of the gospel itself. >Moore, who adopted two boys from Russia and has spoken widely on the subject, writes for couples considering adoption, families who have adopted children, and pastors who wish to encourage adoption.” |

Daughters by Design: The Miracle Adoption of Two Cambodian Orphans $17.99 “Paula’s mind raced: Adoption is not happening I’m too old. I’m comfortable-an empty nester I’m busy teaching. A nine-year-old? Why me?Desiring to do God’s will, Paula searched in John Piper’s A Hunger for God and wept when she read Isaiah 58:6-8 on giving shelter and food to the needy. Five weeks later, God led her to mother not just one, but two Cambodian orphans.”We had no idea how rough our road would be for the next four years . . . But Paul and I were willing to obey the Lord’s clear direction . . . without ever asking a few obvious questions . . . .”" . . be inspired . . . they share their agonizing roadblocks . . . prayers . . . faith . . . challenges . . .As adoptive parents ourselves, we highly recommend this book “-Authors Josh and Dottie McDowell.” . . wild and holy . . . a heartbreaking, impossible adventure . . . their extraordinary faithfulness calls me to dream . . . beyond my capacity . . .”-Dan B. Allender, Ph.D., Professor and Founding President of Mars Hill Graduate School and Author of The Wounded Heart and Leading with a Limp”It’s an amazing and barely conceivable story of international adoption challenges to build a ‘second’ family. I couldn’t put it down. But keep a box of tissue handy-the persistent hope and love shown here will grab your heart and shake you to the core “-Penny Lent, contributing author in Max Lucado’s bestseller It’s Not About Me, Teen Edition.” . . trace God’s hand . . . celebrate His watchful care over two special orphans and . . . two unsuspecting but willing parents . . . they gave us the courage to move forward with our adoption . . .”-Matthew and Molly Veldt, adoptive parents of international children” |

Wait No More: One Family’s Amazing Adoption Journey $13.99 “There are over 130 million orphans worldwide. The pro-life/pro-choice debate continues to consume politics and everyday conversations. Readers want to know what they can do to make a difference on these issues. “Wait No More” tells Kelly and John Rosati’s story of experiencing God more fully through the great blessings and challenges encountered during their journey to adopt four children from the U.S. foster care system. It is a story of God’s faithfulness to grow a beautiful family, through adoption, from the ashes of child abuse, neglect, and abandonment. The Rosatis strongly believe that God’s solution for orphaned children in the foster care system involves ordinary Christians desiring to live out an authentic pro-life commitment requiring action, not just words. Their story reveals how their beliefs challenged, enriched, and completely changed their family’s life.” |

This Means War: Equipping Christian Families for Fostercare or Adoption $14.99 “Fetal Alcohol effects… bonding attachment disorder… self-abusive… violent, destructive, aggressive… fire starter… _______________________________________________________________ Happy, successful, easy adoptions are a reality Many times the children are no more or less difficult to parent than average. However, sometimes raising adopted kids is extremely difficult. Are you really prepared to adopt? Read on as experienced foster, adoptive and even grandparents share stories of success, but also of struggles. Many entered adoption unprepared and were quickly overwhelmed. We wondered why our parenting methods failed. Why didn’t our love heal these children? Why were our previously happy families now falling apart? We lacked vital information about invisible disabilities; we didn’t know how profoundly neglect damages an infant. We didn’t realize we’d signed up to be missionaries to miniature heathens – nor that a spiritual enemy opposed us. Perhaps we assumed the natural state of man, apart from negative influence or defective genes, would be an ideal person; in the Garden of Eden… maybe. We’re not in the Garden anymore Before you adopt, pray for protection and guidance – and be sure you read This Means War This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength…’ (Isaiah 30:15a NIV)” |

My Family, A Symphony: A Memoir of Global Adoption $5.99 Aaron is his parents’ only biological child. His four internationally adopted siblings arrived with severe health problems and psychological wounds: Meredith suffered from birth defects and was never expected to walk; Jamie had cerebral palsy; Jordan had his first heart catheter when he was five; and Michelle had endured serious trauma as a child back in India. All five shared a close bond as children. However, by the time Aaron reached early adulthood, he felt distanced from his sisters and brother. In search of a way to reconnect with his family, Aaron traveled to 23 cities across the globe to trace his siblings’ origins. He visited the orphanages where they had lived, met the people who had taken care of them, and immersed himself in the world of orphans around the globe, visiting slums in India, a village on the North Korean border, and a tribal settlement in an Ethiopian rainforest. My Family, A Symphony is Aaron’s story. Poignant and engaging, it recounts the exploration that gave him new perspective on his family members and the exceptional circumstances that brought them together. |

The Brotherhood of Joseph: A Father’s Memoir of Infertility and Adoption in the 21st Century $4.99 While miracles in reproductive technology have brought joy to millions, those very advances have plunged many couples into an unrelenting cycle of hope and heartbreak. One failed attempt may lead to another and another – but how do you give up when there is always another doctor, another procedure holding out the possibility of conception and the child you yearn for? Brooks Hansen vividly captures the emotional turmoil he and his wife, Elizabeth, endured as they tried to conceive, the years their lives were put on hold, and the excruciating sense of loss. He writes too of the coupleÂ’s journey through the bewildering world of adoption – a path to parenthood fraught with financial, legal, and emotional risks of its own. Offering men a chance to be heard and women a rare opportunity to view the struggle with infertility from a male perspective, The Brotherhood of Joseph brings to life the anger, frustration, humor, heartbreak, and sense of helplessness that come to dominate the husbandÂ’s role. As his remarkable account reaches its finale in Siberia, however, HansenÂ’s once again becomes the story of a husband and a wife who, even after years of medical frustration and fruitless paperwork, still must take one last risk together and trust in their most basic instincts before their new family can be born. |

Intercountry Adoption from China $130.38 Starting with questions about how to incorporate Chinese culture and custom into the lives of their adopted daughters Emily and Claire, the authors began a year-long search for answers. The result is a detailed examination of the post-adoptive views, actions, and experiences of a national sample of families with children from China toward acknowledging their adopted child’s Chinese cultural-heritage and the issues they face together as a multicultural family. Historical and present-day issues affecting intercountry adoptees and their families, such as arguments used to support or oppose intercountry and transracial adoption, developmental delay and the effects of institutionalization on Chinese adoptees, parent-child attachment, discrimination and racial prejudice, and identity development, are detailed. Parents’ beliefs and experiences on these issues are supplemented by a multi-disciplined, comprehensive review of available literature. While occasionally relying on personal experiences, this book is not about the authors’ personal adoption story and parenting experiences. Rather, the focus is on common experiences and reactions of adoptive families who were, for the most part, firmly ensconced in the cultural mainstream but now find themselves viewed differently by society; these parents find that issues of culture, race, and ethnicity have become an important part of their everyday lives. Adoption scholars and professionals, as well as adoptive parents, will benefit from reading Intercountry Adoption from China. |

Transnational Adoption $26.39 View the Table of Contents .nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; Read the Introduction . Provides an original and exciting global framework for understanding the political economy of international adoption. Catherine Ceniza Choy, author ofEmpire of Care: Nursing and Migration in Filipino American History This is a fascinating project, a book that (at last!) gives the phenomenon of transnational China/U.S. adoption the sustained, serious attention that it deserves. Laura Briggs, author ofReproducing Empire: Race, Sex, Science, and U.S. Imperialism in Puerto Rico Each year, thousands of Chinese children, primarily abandoned infant girls, are adopted by Americans. Yet we know very little about the local and transnational processes that characterize this new migration. Transnational Adoptionis a unique ethnographic study of China/U.S. adoption, the largest contemporary intercountry adoption program. Sara K. Dorow begins by situating the popularity of the China/U.S. adoption process within a broader history of immigration and adoption. She then follows the path of the adoption process: the institutions and bureaucracies in both China and the United States that prepare children and parents for each other; the stories and practices that legitimate them coming together as transnational families; the strains placed upon our common notions of what motherhood means; and ways in which parents then construct the cultural and racial identities of adopted children. Based on rich ethnographic evidence, including interviews with and observation of people on both sides of the Pacific from orphanages, government officials, and adoption agencies to advocacy groups and adoptive families themselves thisis a fascinating look at the latest chapter in Chinese-American migration. |
