Adoption Kids
If The Adoption Process were simpler do you think more kids would have good homes?
The Adoption Process is really difficult and has a lot of red tape which means that kids who need a loving family have to wait until the parents are looked up and down with a fine toothed comb and then usually chosen only if they are a str8 married couple.
No. There is no shortage of homes for newborns. There is a shortage of people willing to adopt from foster care but I don’t think the certification process is the biggest obstacle.
To be licensed to adopt from foster care took us only 4 months. Those four months were useful for us as well because we had training and time to learn about what we were getting into.
I remember that there was legislation pending in TX at one time to prevent gay couples from being foster parents, but I don’t remember how it turned out. I searched this on the internet and found there have been attempts to bar gay couples from foster care in Florida and Arkansas. I do think gay couples can be good parents.
There are enough horrible stories of abusive foster parents that slipped through the screening already. I don’t think the red tape is too excessive.

Adoption as a Ministry, Adoption as a Blessing $13.99 “”Abba, Father ” Of all the pictures the Lord uses to describe His relationship with believers, that of a loving father to adopted children is perhaps the most tender. As the body of Christ observes families who have lovingly welcomed adopted children into their midst, we gain a greater appreciation of our own adoption into the family of God. Exploring what Scripture says about adoption and the value of children, Michelle Gardner demonstrates that adoption can be God’s first choice for some lives. Weaving her own children’s heartwarming adoption stories throughout the book, Michelle presents a new challenge for believers to do something drastic for a child. Adoption as a Ministry, Adoption as a Blessing explores: – what the Bible says about ministering to children in need of families – how the church can minister to adoptive families – whether it is right to spend a great deal of money on one child’s adoption – whether domestic or international adoptions are more worthy – the blessings of adoption If you are touched by adoption in any way, this book will give you a new perspective on the Biblical significance of this unique relationship. Michelle Gardner, the Director of Kingdom Kids Adoption Ministries, is a graduate of Multnomah Bible College. She and her husband Steve were missionaries with CBInternational for several years. Steve is now Pastor to Children and Families at Fourth Memorial Church in Spokane, Washington. They have six children, three of whom are adopted.” |

This Means War: Equipping Christian Families for Fostercare or Adoption $14.99 “Fetal Alcohol effects… bonding attachment disorder… self-abusive… violent, destructive, aggressive… fire starter… _______________________________________________________________ Happy, successful, easy adoptions are a reality Many times the children are no more or less difficult to parent than average. However, sometimes raising adopted kids is extremely difficult. Are you really prepared to adopt? Read on as experienced foster, adoptive and even grandparents share stories of success, but also of struggles. Many entered adoption unprepared and were quickly overwhelmed. We wondered why our parenting methods failed. Why didn’t our love heal these children? Why were our previously happy families now falling apart? We lacked vital information about invisible disabilities; we didn’t know how profoundly neglect damages an infant. We didn’t realize we’d signed up to be missionaries to miniature heathens – nor that a spiritual enemy opposed us. Perhaps we assumed the natural state of man, apart from negative influence or defective genes, would be an ideal person; in the Garden of Eden… maybe. We’re not in the Garden anymore Before you adopt, pray for protection and guidance – and be sure you read This Means War This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength…’ (Isaiah 30:15a NIV)” |

Adoption Is for a Lifetime $14.99 “Nancy was Canada’s first foreign adoptee. She shares her fascinating story of how God orchestrated her adoption from Hong Kong, blessed her with wonderful parents, a loving husband, and in His faithfulness and healing presence, brought them through every struggle, especially the loss of their first daughter, Rebecca Joy. Despite the grief, Nancy shares how God turned their pain into joy and sorrow into victory. From what may have seemed like a tragedy to most, Nancy and her husband, Paul, now see how God used this great trial to prepare their hearts for the adoption of Joylin (5), their first precious daughter and their second, Saralin (1). Take a journey with Nancy, as she testifies of the abiding presence of our heavenly Father’s heart for adoption. Nancy (Lai Kwan Chiu) was born in Hong Kong. At 3 years of age, she was adopted by Chinese parents and became Canada’s first foreign adoptee. She lived with her parents and adopted brother, Gerry, in Montreal until she was 13, after which her family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and eventually pursued a career in computer programming. Nancy, her husband, Paul, and adopted Chinese daughters, Joylin (5) and Sarlin (1) now live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she works as a computer programmer/systems analyst. She enjoys serving as head deacon at her local church and co-teaching an adult Sunday School class with Paul. Nancy’s greatest passion, however, is being a mother to Joylin and Saralin, her pride and joy.” |

The Open Adoption Book: A Guide to Adoption Without Tears $13.95 “Updated for a New Paperback Edition, the Definitive Guide to Open Adoption, by the founder of the Open Adoption Movement The exploding popularity of open adoption today underscores what adopting parents, birthparents, and many adoption experts now maintain: Open adoption is the healthiest, most humane, and fastest method available. It’s better for the birthmother, because she (not lawyers or social workers) decides the future of her child. It’s better for children, because they’re raised without the shroud of secrecy and stigma that accompanies most closed adoptions. And it’s better for adopting parents, because it dramatically shortens the time it takes to obtain a baby, from an average of seven years to under one year. As director of one of the country’s leading open adoption agencies and founder of the first nationwide network of open adoption organizations, Bruce Rappaport has facilitated thousands of successful open adoptions and acquired an intimate understanding of the most common and heartfelt concerns of parents seeking to adopt a baby. Interweaving personal stories and real-life experiences of adopting parents, birthparents, and adopted children, he answers the questions clients most frequently ask:> * What is an open adoption? How does it differ from traditional adoption?> * Will I ever feel like a real parent if my child’s biological mother knows I’m raising her child? Will she interfere?> * What if the birthmother changes her mind after the adoption?> * How long will it take to get a child?> Documenting answers with extensive personal experience and research, Dr. Rappaport paints a reassuring yet realistic picture of the open adoption process. The result is a highly informative, deeply moving book that will help many people realize the greatest joy life can offer.” |

The stories contained in this book will make you smile, cry, and find a place in your heart for hurting people that are usually blurred out of the media headlines. As a Pastor, I appreciate the caring way she approaches the issues and the caring hands that she reaches out with to touch hurting hearts. Pastor Rudy Bond New Life Worship Center, Tyler, Texas Doris has gathered a treasury of hope and joy surrounding the adoption process, including Scriptural encouragement and honesty about the fears and challenges involved. This book is a testament to the hand of God with even the least of these. Sara Maynard is a Texas attorney, specializing in representing children. She is Board Certified in Juvenile Law. ADOPTION JOYS, THEY EXPECTED A MIRACLE, explains God’s plan for unplanned pregnancies through moving testimonies of families who have experienced the joy of adoption. As the mother of two adopted children and one adopted grandson, I found myself rejoicing with the families through their stories. This book will be an effective tool to encourage couples to consider adopting children to complete their family. Birth parents will also understand the joy their baby will bring to the adoptive couple; and, perhaps, cause them to consider releasing their baby for adoption. Adopted for Life: The Priority of Adoption for Christian Families and Churches $15.99 “>A stirring call to Christian families and churches to be a people who care for orphans, not just in word, but in deed. >The gospel of Jesus Christ-the good news that through Jesus we have been adopted as sons and daughters into God’s family-means that Christians ought to be at the forefront of the adoption of orphans in North America and around the world. >Russell D. Moore does not shy away from this call in Adopted for Life, a popular-level, practical manifesto for Christians to adopt children and to help equip other Christian families to do the same. He shows that adoption is not just about couples who want children-or who want more children. It is about an entire culture within Christianity, a culture that sees adoption as part of the Great Commission mandate and as a sign of the gospel itself. >Moore, who adopted two boys from Russia and has spoken widely on the subject, writes for couples considering adoption, families who have adopted children, and pastors who wish to encourage adoption.” |

Wait No More: One Family’s Amazing Adoption Journey $13.99 “There are over 130 million orphans worldwide. The pro-life/pro-choice debate continues to consume politics and everyday conversations. Readers want to know what they can do to make a difference on these issues. “Wait No More” tells Kelly and John Rosati’s story of experiencing God more fully through the great blessings and challenges encountered during their journey to adopt four children from the U.S. foster care system. It is a story of God’s faithfulness to grow a beautiful family, through adoption, from the ashes of child abuse, neglect, and abandonment. The Rosatis strongly believe that God’s solution for orphaned children in the foster care system involves ordinary Christians desiring to live out an authentic pro-life commitment requiring action, not just words. Their story reveals how their beliefs challenged, enriched, and completely changed their family’s life.” |

Adopting the Hurt Child: A Guide for Parents and Professionals $0.99 THE NEW FACE OF ADOPTION. Fewer and fewer families adopting today are able to bring home a healthy newborn infant. The majority of adoptions now involve emotionally wounded, older children who have suffered the effects of abuse or neglect in their birth families and carry complex baggage with them into their adoptive families. Adopting the Hurt Child addresses the frustrations, heartache, and hope surrounding the adoptions of these special-needs kids. Children who have endured emotional and physical atrocities, failed reunifications, and myriad losses associated with multiple moves in the foster care system not only present unique challenges to their adoptive families but also impact greater society in significant ways. Integrating social, psychological, and sociopolitical issues, Adopting the Hurt Child explains how trauma and interruptions affect these children’s normal development and often severely undermine their capacity to function in a loving family and in society. Written in a non-technical style accessible to a diverse audience, Adopting the Hurt Child brings to light grim truths, but also real hope that children who have been hurt can be healed and brought back into life by the adoptive and foster parents, therapists, teachers, social workers, and others whose lives interact with theirs. |

Adoption as a Ministry, Adoption as a Blessing $4.94 Abba, Father! Of all the pictures the Lord uses to describe His relationship with believers, that of a loving father to adopted children is perhaps the most tender. As the body of Christ observes families who have lovingly welcomed adopted children into their midst, we gain a greater appreciation of our own adoption into the family of God.Exploring what Scripture says about adoption and the value of children, Michelle Gardner demonstrates that adoption can be God’s first choice for some lives. Weaving her own children’s heartwarming adoption stories throughout the book, Michelle presents a new challenge for believers to do something drastic for a child.Adoption as a Ministry, Adoption as a Blessing explores: – what the Bible says about ministering to children in need of families- how the church can minister to adoptive families- whether it is right to spend a great deal of money on one child’s adoption- whether domestic or international adoptions are more worthy- the blessings of adoptionIf you are touched by adoption in any way, this book will give you a new perspective on the Biblical significance of this unique relationship.Michelle Gardner, the Director of Kingdom Kids Adoption Ministries, is a graduate of Multnomah Bible College. She and her husband Steve were missionaries with CBInternational for several years. Steve is now Pastor to Children and Families at Fourth Memorial Church in Spokane, Washington. It’s about how not every threeyear- old is charming and delightful and about how sometimes when your kid is having a tantrum, you have to stifle the impulse to round-house him. And Afterbirth is funny—the participants are some of the best comic writers and performers today, turning their attention very close to home and sparing no one, particularly themselves. The thirty-five pieces include: • Caroline Aaron on what it feels like when the kid moves out of the house (“The New Parenting Paradigm”) • Christie Mellor on why it’s dangerous to tell people what you really think about being a mommy (“Yahooey”) • Joan Rater on parenting the unexpected (“Attachment Adoption”) • Neil Pollack on unforeseeable and unreasonable parental rage (“The Tennis Pro”) • Matt Weiner on trying not to parent violently like his father did (“Go Easy on the Old Man”) |

Becoming a Family: Promoting Healthy Attachements with Your Adopted Child $14.95 It is a story that moves us to tears. An American couple travels across the world to rescue a child from the hopelessness of a foreign orphanage, bringing their new son or daughter to a life of love and family. But does this transition always go smoothly? Adoptive parents hope their child will easily fit into the family and quickly become emotionally connected to the parents or siblings. But child psychologists and adoption experts say this connection is the most difficult aspect of international adoption. In countries where international adoptions are common-China, Russia, or Romania-orphanages commonly represent the available children to their new parents as healthy kids who just need a little love. In many cases, this is a gross misrepresentation. Children who spend time in institutionalized care may have experienced trauma, and therefore may not attach easily to their new family. Parents anxious to bring these children into their homes and their hearts struggle seriously with this issue. Although these children will eventually adapt in a healthy fashion, the road to emotional health and harmony can be a rocky one.Becoming a Family tackles this intricate issue head on. It provides parents with effective strategies for ensuring that their adopted child adjusts as quickly and seamlessly as possible. Practical and accessible, this book will help parents identify severe problems before the adoption, significantly reduce the risk of future difficulty, improve the damage already done to the child’s otherwise normal, healthy development, and dramatically help enfold the child into a family ready to give love, security, and a new life. |

Both Ends Burning $21.9 Craig Juntunen appeared to have it all. He sold his company at the age of 40, and set out to live the good life of retirement. But he soon began to feel something was lacking. When a friend told him the story of adopting two girls from Haiti, Craig’s emptiness gave way to a sense of adventure. On a trip to the desperate Third World nation, a country wracked by poverty, corruption and kidnappings, his self-serving lifestyle began a very profound transformation. At an orphanage outside of Port-Au-Prince Craig encountered Espie, Amelec and Quinn. Even after decades of table-pounding declarations he would never have children, at 51 Craig became a dad. This inspirational story of an unexpected journey and personal transformation will say many things to different people. But for all it delivers a powerful reminder of our responsibility to reach out and be there for kids.”Craig’s story is very compelling and very real. It demonstrates the beauty of the adoption story….everybody wins. You start out by providing a home for a child but you end up providing more for yourself than you ever imagined.” Kirk Triplett, PGA Golf Professional and adoptive parent. |

Butterflies in the Wind: The Truth about Latin American Adoptions $18.74 The book chronicles not only the adoption of their three children abroad, but follows each of their children (including their biological son) into young adulthood. It vividly depicts their difficulties in raising teenagers in a cross-cultural, transracial home, and also exposes the frightening conditions facing today’s kids in our public schools, including gang issues, drop outs, and culture clashes. It provides valuable insights to parents and non-parents as well. This book was a real eye-opener and awakened me to the harsh realities our teens must face in what I would have thought were quality schools. Although told from a parent’s point of view, they very effectively explored the emotions, indeed the angst, of their teenage children.–Jo-Anne Weaver, adoptive parent of a Chinese daughter placed by Los Niños International, and Senior Acquisitions Editor of Education and Developmental Psychology for Harcourt Brace. |

Clutter $9.95 Clutter is a humorous children’s color book written by Ana Monnar. The main character is a boy who could not be bothered by the clutter in his room. The father wished the boy would be less messy. However, the boy knew where all of his things were under each single pile. The clutter seemed to remain no matter what. Last but not least, the teen boy grew older and married, and guess what? His first born son grew and grew. When the young son became a teenager the story repeated itself. Have you read any of these books? Express Yourself 101: Dancing with Words is the first anthology of a series that went live in December of 2005 compiled by Award Winning Teacher, Ana Monnar. This first volume offers writers from the past, present and future. Ana Monnar is the author of Half Full, Or Half Empty?: A Collection of Poems, Poetry from Planet Earth, Gold and Glitter, Relax, Adoption? Thank God for That Option! English and Spanish versions, La ley del embudo, The Law of the Funnel, Bilingual English/Spanish and English versions, It Doesn’t Matter, Hungry Woman, Heart of Stone, and now featuring Clutter. Ana Monnar is the mother of three teenagers.ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR – Ken Nebel – For me a picture should be a pleasant thing. There are quite enough unpleasant things in life without the need for us to manufacture more. The imagination of a child, full of fantasy creatures, and heroic kids, is a world set apart. Taking children on an adventure artistically through fairy tales, picture books, and book jackets is something I especially enjoy. I love listening to folk tales and telling stories, and my artwork mirrors that love. I specialize in my ability to instillhuman qualities in my animal characters, and my rich use of watercolor. |

Endangered Species: The Stealing of Black Children $3.99 Adoption and foster care has become a profitable business, and black families are the main victims of government fraud and corruption. Black families lose over a hundred thousand kids to foster care and adoption, and no one seems to care because law officials and judges have their stake in the corruption. One hundred thousand poor black, white and Hispanic Americans lose their parental rights to their children because of unjust laws that efface their efforts of reunification. Can you imagine a family given a contract to be reunified with their children, then have the agency or court decide another ‘strange’ family is more suitable for the child rearing instead of its biological parents? Every month, thousands of parents are losing their rights to their children, to agencies that favor adoption over the home of biological parents. Black families are losing their value because there are too many calamities that peril their significance of raising children. We need to start protecting our children from the corruption and racism of the American government that are implementing policies that are auctioning black children off to the highest bidder. |

Fatherhood for Gay Men $125 Get the inside story on a single gay man’s struggle to adopt!Fatherhood for Gay Men: An Emotional and Practical Guide to Becoming a Gay Dad is the story of one man’s journey down the road less traveled—a single gay man adopting and raising his two sons. Author Kevin McGarry recounts his passage into parenthood after years of having his natural fathering instincts stifled by the limits—real and perceived—of being gay. This unique book details the emotional, financial, practical, and social realities of the adoption process for gay men. From the author: “We take risks by coming out of the closet as gay men and at the end of the day, we are emotionally happier because we took those risks. By coming out, we are being true to who we are. The same goes for anyone, gay or straight, who has gut instincts for parenthood. I knew over the years that I had parenting instincts because I had this incredible envy of other dads. I would watch them with their kids and wish that somehow, I could have that role. It was painful at times because being gay, I didn’t think parenting was in my life plan. Had more role models been available to me, the process would have been a little less difficult.”Much more than a “how-to” guide to adoption, Fatherhood for Gay Men is the personal account of a single gay man’s struggle to become a father despite the real and imagined limitations of being a gay man. The book looks at the adoption process (domestic and international) from the inside, providing unique insight into: conducting a homestudy costs (fees and expenses) what countries allow men to adopt alternatives to adoption life as a new parent online resources and a state-by-state review of adoption laws, categorized by “Completely Legal,” “Favorable Climate,” “Mixed Success,” and “Illegal” The book also includes results of the 2000 study by Gillian Dunne, senior |

Give Them Grace $19.98 A guide to help Christians parent their children with grace and an emphasis on the cross. How are parents to raise children so they don”t become Pharisees (legalists) or prodigals (rebels)? It”s all about grace-filled, gospel-driven parenting, says the mother/daughter team of Elyse Fitzpatrick and Jessica Thompson. Christian parents, in their desire to raise godly children, can tend toward rule-centered discipline. There is, however, a far more effective method–a grace-motivated approach that begins with the glorious truth of God”s love for sinners. In Give Them Grace, parents will learn how to connect the benefits of the cross–especially regeneration, adoption, and justification–to their children”s daily lives. Chapters address topics such as our inability to follow the law perfectly, God”s forgiveness and love displayed at the cross, and what true heart obedience looks like. Fitzpatrick and Thompson also discuss discipline, dealing with popular culture, and evangelism as a way of life. Parents will find this book a great resource for raising grace-filled, Jesus-loving kids. |
